April 1, 2019, Aptos CA Friends,
Some of you may remember that last year we were approached by HTGV to create a new series called "Forever Seniors." Here's an update.
Last spring, we produced a 15-minute demo show. The feedback is not what we expected. First, the HTGV producer loved the concept of seniors downsizing in their Golden Years. But, she wanted too many changes. She had no suggestions for Terri and Jen, but the story was different for Buddy and me. For example, the producer wanted me to grow a beard and wanted to replace Buddy with an Australian Ridgeback. These conditions were dealbreakers, so we decided to terminate the process before we invested more time.
Then in November, Chip and Joanna Gaines of "Fixer Upper" announced they were starting a new home improvement channel. We contacted them with our concept. I would be the Executive Producer/Project Manager. Terri would be the Designer and Jen the small job handywoman and parental peacekeeper. Buddy would be responsible for our social media presence and serve as a bodyguard. The show would be based in Santa Cruz. We renamed the show "Forever Young".
In January, we flew to Waco Texas to meet the Gaines'. We spent most of the time with their TV programming executives. We did enjoy a 30-minute face-to-face with Chip and Joanna. They were generally nice people. Buddy especially enjoyed Chip's antics. Who wouldn't like two people revered by Cher, JLo and Brandon McMillan, star of CBS' Lucky Dog.
Currently, we are waiting to hear from them. Buddy is working his tail off, hounding the producers for an answer and making sure we aren't barking up the wrong tree.
